Mike & Louise McSweeney

Michael Blakely, Marketing student: Being recognized by the McSweeney family as a scholarship recipient gives me confidence that I am making the right choices for my future. To me, receiving this award says: You are doing well and don’t stop. I will never stop moving forward.

Denise Schoenbachler-Dean, College of Business: The first time Michael and Louise and I talked about creating a scholarship in the College of Business, he immediately asked, “What will it take to endow it?” And that’s exactly what they did: created the first endowed scholarship in marketing at NIU. Such an appreciation of enduring impact is fitting coming from a couple who began their lives together at NIU.
 

With their ultimate gift, the McSweeneys have irrevocably named NIU as the beneficiary of a charitable remainder unitrust. When realized, that gift will create the Michael T. and Louise A. McSweeney Endowed Professorship in Marketing, a position that will help bring the most talented, dedicated professors in the discipline to NIU.
