At the Northern Illinois University Foundation, we recognize the immense value representation from diverse experiences, backgrounds, and voices adds to our ability to effectively achieve our Mission and Vision through deliberate diversity, equity, and inclusion practices. The Foundation’s commitment to these values is uncompromising and intends to support our efforts to build an organization which is reflective of the community we serve.

Diversity and inclusion at the Northern Illinois University Foundation includes, but not limited to race, ethnicity, color, nationality, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, marital status, class, religion, disability, age, military status, visa status, economic status, geographic location and language/linguistic ability.

Our Guiding Principles

• The Foundation embraces Northern Illinois University’s values that strive to create a “community of diverse people, ideas, services, and scholarly endeavors in a climate of respect for the intrinsic dignity of each individual.”

• The Foundation embraces Northern Illinois University’s values to seek and be “strengthened by the diverse perspectives and experiences of our university community members”, where each community member is welcomed and respected, and decision-making processes are enhanced through inclusivity.

• As an ethically governed organization, we pride ourselves on the integrity and character of our community, including our employees, staff, donors, vendors, contractors, and consultants, and any entities with which the Foundation engages and/or conducts business. As such, the Foundation does not tolerate activities, behavior or conduct which contradicts, in action or perception, our ethical commitments.

• The Foundation believes in equal employment opportunities for all. We utilize recruitment venues available and recommended to us by NIU’s Affirmative Action department to reach diverse candidate pools.

• Inclusion is how we unleash the power of diversity. We strive to foster belonging and empowerment in the workplace. We listen and engage with our diverse communities and value their teamwork.

The NIU Foundation is committed to transparency and accountability in how we operate, and we take seriously our responsibility to comply with state and federal regulations governing charitable organizations.

In accordance with Section 114.15 of the Illinois General Not-For-Profit Corporation Act (805 ILCS 105/114.15), the Foundation requested demographic information from all directors and officers, including race, ethnicity, gender, disability status, veteran status, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
