“Lending a Voice to History” Presentations by the Department of History and the Center for Latino and Latin American Studies

history-professors

Wednesday, Dec. 2

Oral histories are a powerful part of the documenting history; the first-hand accounts of individuals adds color and depth to designated areas, significant events or designated periods of time. Conducting oral histories is an art form; asking probing questions while building a rapport with your subject.

During this program, you will learn more about oral histories and their role in adding to the historical record. In addition, you will hear from two NIU faculty researchers with oral history projects: history professors Amanda Littauer, Ph.D., who spearheaded the NIU 125th Oral History Project, and Christina Abreu, Ph.D., who is conducting oral history research of Latinx individuals and families regarding their experiences with the pandemic as part of the Voices of a Pandemic oral history project at the University of Texas.
