 STEM Café: Stargazing, Space Stations and Solar Eclipses

Join us from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12, at Open Range Southwest Grill in Sugar Grove, Illinois, for the next STEM Café—Stargazing, Space and Missions to the Moon.

Join NIU STEAM for an awesomely engaging night of star gazing – rain or shine! First our speakers will introduce us to stellar science subjects, including NASAs newest missions to the moon and the properties of stars and meteors. Then we’ll go outside to observe the night sky during the spectacular Perseid meteor shower.

Speakers:
Joel Knapper (NASA Solar System Ambassador) will the Artemis Program and returning to the moon after 50 years.
Jim Hopkins (Retired Associate Professor of Science, Joliet Junior College) will talk about telescopes across the electromagnetic spectrum.
Jeremy Benson (Physics Lab Manager, Northern Illinois University) will tell us what to watch for in the night sky.

Northern Illinois University STEM Cafés are part of NIU STEAM and are designed to increase public awareness of the critical role that STEM fields play in our everyday lives. They are offered in partnership with the NIU Alumni Association and made possible with support from Thermo Fisher Scientific and Bayer Fund.
