NIU Day: Huskies Get Discount Tickets, Special Access June 9, Six Flags Great America

NIU students, employees and their guests can kick off summer with discounted $39.99 tickets.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to get exclusive theme park access with your friends and family? Saturday, June 9, is NIU Day at Six Flags Great America, where students, employees and their guests can kick off summer with discounted $39.99 tickets and exclusive ride time at the end of the evening.
 

Northern Illinois University is inviting all current and prospective students, employees, alumni and their guests to enjoy a special discount off the regular ticket price of $76.99 and to take advantage of free parking instead of paying the usual $26 fee. Those interested can enter code “niu2018” at sixflags.com/greatamerica.
 

Sol Jensen, vice president for Enrollment Management, Marketing and Communications, says the NIU-specific day serves a dual purpose as a summer kickoff for the campus community and a retention and orientation tool for students.

“You could think of this fun day as a family trip for our students and employees, but also as a valuable opportunity for prospective students to meet us,” he said. “We want to show them what Huskie pride is all about.”

In addition to a lower ticket price for the general public from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and free parking, the NIU Day deal will close off at least two sections of the park to Huskie access only in the evening from 8 to 10 p.m.
 

For two hours, NIU guests can have the Orleans Place and Mardi Gras sections to themselves— including the Superman roller coaster, Dark Knight indoor roller coaster, an entertainment stage and Six Flags’ new bucket list item for adrenaline seekers, the world’s largest loop coaster.

Jensen says NIU will have access to play its own music or even provide live entertainment. And if more guests than anticipated purchase the discounted tickets, Six Flags will open additional sections of the park for Huskie-only access at the end of the day.

“The more guests we have, the bigger our exclusive experience could be at the end of the day,” he said. “We encourage our campus community to invite friends, family, alumni and anyone who may be interested in attending NIU.”

Guests can receive free parking by presenting proof of their “niu2018” promo ticket purchase at the Six Flags tollbooth. NIU staff and volunteers will be at a booth outside the front gates for Huskies and friends to pick up their special-access wristbands and obtain information.

As part of the online offer, guests can add on the Meal Deal Voucher for just $14.75 to enjoy food from a variety of vendors throughout the park. Ages 2 and younger receive free admission to Six Flags.

Please note that season passes are not valid for end-of-the-evening access in NIU’s exclusive sections. Also, the Hurricane Harbor waterpark requires an additional fee and will not be open after 8 p.m. Tickets purchased with the “niu2018” code are good for NIU Day on Saturday, June 9, only, as Six Flags does not offer refunds or rain checks for inclement weather.
