Come back to campus and help us celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Department of Geology and Environmental Geosciences! Over the past 50 years, the department has continuously evolved and remade itself. Throughout this process we have always stayed true to three principal goals: provide the best possible education for our students; conduct the highest quality research; and serve the global community by increasing our understanding of the natural environment and our role in it. Plus, NIU's mascot Mission will be at both events to take pictures with! Join us to help celebrate the history of the department, and to learn more about its future. These events are open to all alumni, students and friends of NIU. All guests must register to attend.

  • Open House and Colloquium - $15 ($20 at the door); children 12 and under are free - Friday, Oct. 4: The department is hosting an open house and colloquium from 3 - 7 p.m. in Davis Hall. Tour the department, meet with current students and faculty, reconnect with alumni and enjoy hors d'oeuvres and refreshments. The colloquium speaker will be James Gridley, '87, Ph.D., director of the National Tsunami Warning Center at NOAA.
  • Football Pregame - $15 ($20 at the door); children 12 and under are free - Saturday, Oct. 5: We will be hosting a football pregame event before NIU takes on Ball State. Join us 2 1/2 hours before the game (kick off time TBA) inside the Barsema Alumni and Visitors Center for a full buffet meal, a mini poster session of student research, presentations and displays of department history, and a variety of other fun activities that will help you reconnect with friends and fondly remember your time at NIU. Guest are responsible for securing their own tickets to the game. Tickets can be purchased from NIU Athletics.

Hotel rooms are available at the Holmes Student Center.
